An Interactive Educational Symposium held
at SCCM 39th Critical Care Conference,
January 11, 2010, 6:00PM - 8:00PM

Overview:
Sepsis is a major healthcare challenge that threatens a significant number of patients. Diagnosing sepsis early and initiating ap-propriate therapy is both crucial and challenging due to the lack of specific clinical signs and symptoms for sepsis. The protein Procalcitonin (PCT) is a sensitive biomarker for the detection of bacterial infection, including sepsis. This symposium will explore the application of PCT in the management of patients with sepsis or suspected sepsis, including its use in guiding clinical decisions regarding antibiotic therapy, helping reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics and shortening the duration of treatment. more

Intended Audience
This symposium is intended for physicians, doctors of pharmacy, and physician extenders such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who deal with patients with sepsis. This includes those with practices in pulmonology, critical care medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric pulmonology, neonatology, and pediatric critical care medicine. more
